Got The World’s Best Hug!

A hug is one of the purest and warmest expressions of love. Yet, sadly, we often overlook this simple gesture, even with those closest to us.

In India, especially among millennials, there’s a noticeable hesitation when it comes to hugging loved ones—both in public and in private.

Recently, my friend, who’s 8 years younger than me, visited India on her vacations. It had been 9 months since we met, and the excitement was definitely at its peak.

My sweet friend was planning to give me a surprise but somehow that wasn’t possible. So, we knew exactly when we’ll be seeing each other.

I hadn’t been this eager to meet someone in my life. Maybe that’s because of the bond we share. Despite the age gap, we share a special connection. I can’t really explain how, but our thoughts and likes match. I guess that’s enough to make the best of friends.

And you know how it is, if somebody’s coming on a certain date, you tend to say that date for at least 50 times. Isn’t?

When finally, the wait was over and I saw her coming towards me, I could see the happiness on her face. And I hope she saw the same happiness on mine, too. Because I was elated to see her after such a long time.

I woke up from my place to welcome her and she ran towards me. We hugged each other tight. Her long silky hair smelled like flowers. We hugged for several seconds, and it felt soothingly warm.

“Oh dear! I waited for a long time”, I whispered in her ears.

And for the next few seconds we stayed there feeling all the months we went without seeing each other. It’s beautiful how a quiet action of love can convey so many emotions.

I still remember the hug which made me cry when I bid her goodbye last year. We could hardly speak then, and we could hardly express now. Maybe the deepest emotions are seldom said in words.

Anyways, I am happy I won’t be here to say yet another goodbye to her. Goodbye hugs hurt a lot!
