What Really Disrupts Your Daily Routine?

Sometimes you know what’s right for you. You know what’ll give you the most happiness. You know how life will change in the best way possible if you do that thing.

But not always are you able to do it, isn’t it?

Let’s take an example, I had been creating content on Instagram (2 different accounts), writing blogs twice a week, writing books (both paperbacks and ebooks), sending emails to my subscribers, reading books, and all of this I had been doing all by myself.

Today, when I’m in my 30s and look back at my 20s I see how I did all of the above things so efficiently and was always at it. Compared to what I am doing today. It’s almost 50 percent of what I’ve mentioned above.

It’s deeply saddening to not do more things you love doing. And once you realise things, you start missing your old routine. A daily routine which was your happy place.

The other day I was sharing these thoughts with my best friend and her perspective made me think on this topic as to what really happens over the years that disrupt our routine. Why do habits turn into chaos? And daily routine into disruption?

Thankfully, the answer to these questions is not always laziness or procrastination.

Here are some of the most common triggers that lead to a drastic change in your routine:

1. Major Life Events

A new job, a recent break-up, moving to a new city, getting married, are some of the most routine-shattering and major events of your life. They have the power to pull you out of your familiar routine and force you take a different path in life (sometimes even to downhill).

2. Health Challenges

Imagine you’re on the top of your career and suddenly fall sick (either physcially or mentally). That illness has the power to turn your world upside down. Routine is just a small part of that world, isn’t it?

3. Loss and Grief

Losing a loved one changes your life – the time you wake up at, the perspective through which you look at the world, the food you consume, your constant mood swings, and the way you decide to take your life further. You cannot predict the timeline of your grief, it’s unpredictable and disrupts your life severely.

4. Burnout or Emotional Overload

Sometimes overdoing everything can also be a problem. If you have an exhausting routine for too long, your mind and body might eventually force a pause. Also, burnout often demands a full system reset.

How do you cope?

First of all, if your daily routine is disrupted because of any of the above four reasons, then please relax. You don’t have to explain yourself to anybody not even to yourself. All the above situations are self-explanatory.

Change is always uncomfortable, and you need a considerable amount of time to accept and adapt to the change.

When your routine is disturbed, take a moment to reflect on things. Think about the habits that actually served you, and give-up on the habits that aren’t taking you anywhere. Analyse your new routine and adjust your life around it. This is far better than just sulking about your lost routine.

Sometimes this wake-up call is something we didn’t know we needed.

So, here’s your chance to fix your routine and your life starting today. I’ll be sharing some practical steps to do so in my next blog. So, stay tuned.

Also, I’ve started a new activity where I’ll be sending exclusive emails to my subscribers every week with lots of useful information, exciting updates, etc. And it is called – “Weekly Drafts by Shraddha Rane”.
